May News and Notes

Our May meeting was held on Monday, May 5, and featured a transition clinic presented by Donnie Artley.  A transition rack was set up outside the Lake Jackson Intermediate Band Hall, and several members brought bikes and gear to practice and share tips on making transitions faster and smoother. He also provided a helpful handout.  Click here to download.

Following the clinic, we adjourned to the Wursthaus to have some social time and discuss a little club business.

The main focus of the discussion was the upcoming Firecracker 4, sponsored by Dow Chemical and directed by Andy Littleton.

  • Please visit the Facebook page or www.ljfat.com for more details about the race.
  • If you are interested in volunteering, please visit https://www.thedriven.net/driven.race_reg/eid/727123578 and click on “Volunteer” to sign up. Every volunteer will get a super cool shirt!
  • Additionally, door prizes are needed for post-race festivities! If you can donate something or know someone who can, please contact Andy (littleton78@gmail.com).
  • Please be sure to sign up either as a participant or volunteer by Sunday, May 18 to guarantee your preferred shirt size!!!

Also discussed was the possibility of LJFAT subsidizing (either in full or part) the fee to swim at Mammoth Lake.  LJFAT would pay an annual or monthly fee to Mammoth Lake so that LJFAT members could swim there free of charge or at a reduced price.  We will keep you posted on this as we gather more information about the feasibility of this idea.

April 2014 Meeting Notes and News

Our monthly meeting was at Mammoth Lake on Monday, April 7.  The owners provided information about open water swimming and a tour of the facilities.  Michael Harvey led a discussion on open water swimming and discussed the difference between a surfing wetsuit and a swimming wetsuit.  Several members did a short open water swim following the discussion.

You, too, can take advantage of this great local facility for only $8!  If you are interested in learning more about open water swimming or diving opportunities at Mammoth Lake, call (979) 529-9174.

Following the tour, members adjourned to Asiel's (next door) for some fun social time and dinner.

Stay tuned to www.ljfat.com and our FaceBook page for information about next month's meeting!
